1  General Category / Off Topic Discussions / Ever wanted a pair of custom-made musical pants? on: May 20, 2012, 09:38:29 pm
Well, I made some for myself with one of my favorite pairs of jeans. They've evolved quite a lot since the first patch was sewn back in 2006, and I even have authentic signatures from Mitch Malloy, Gary Cherone, Kevin Figueiroa, Nuno Bettencourt, Rod Morgenstein and Reb Beach, over which I've embroidered. You'll recognize most of the bands represented on the pants, I think.

I've decided that pants like these are too awesome to be kept to myself, so I'm going to make them for other people now. If you would like a pair of similar pants with a particular theme, please let me know! The first few pairs I make will be free, in exchange for your wearing them in public around lots of people (advertising, you know).

Here are pictures that I took today - my friend Myra is the gorgeous model: https://plus.google.com/photos/117283501221899428491/albums/5744788363813505153?authkey=CL7hwJvz0OOGSA

Also, because I want to diversify the body types represented when I use pictures for advertising, I'm looking for more models. If you fit a USA women's size 10-12 jeans and you'd like to photograph yourself in these pants, let me know. I'll be happy to ship them to you, as long as you ship them back and send me the picture files. You're also free to post the pictures on your own pages/websites/blogs if you want, as long as you mention who made them. (I'm going by the name of Nicoli Dominn in this instance.)
2  General Category / General Music Chat / Re: Dream Theater Grammy Nomination!!! on: February 15, 2012, 01:24:43 pm
It does suck that the Foo Fighters won. Plus, the lead singer was performing like every 5 seconds. It was like the Foo Fighter show, not the Grammys.

Don't you mean "The Adele Show?" God, I'm surprised they didn't just give EVERYTHING to her. She's so annoying. Not because of her music, although I don't like that either, but because NO ONE WILL STOP GUSHING ABOUT HER. And because if you so much as hint that you don't completely and totally love her, then they get really defensive and they bite your head off.

The new Sixx: A.M. album, "This Is Gonna Hurt." WOW, what a change from "The Heroin Diaries." Great writing, though, and the dude's vocals are kick ass. What surprises me is why, for an album with so many happy love-related and optimistic songs, they would have called it "This Is Gonna Hurt." Other than that it's the title of the first track. Unless they're trying to make an ironic statement about the awareness of the "narrator" in those happy songs, like maybe something awful is going to happen to him and he doesn't know it yet. WHO KNOWS. Anyway, great album, despite completely defying my expectations of a typical Nikki Sixx repertoire.

Just watched "Saved!" for the zillionth time. It's just a hilarious movie, but really cute as well. And, uh, Eva Amurri Martino (Cassandra) is really hot. Just sayin'.

Actually, most of James' solo songs are better than The Dark Eternal Night  Cheesy

I don't remember that song, but if it's the one where Portnoy talks about "FOREVERMORE! INTO THE NIGHT! BLISTERING!", then I definitely agree.

Apparently Van Halen is playing in Nashville in April. I've never seen them before, so I really want to go. Only problem is that it's at the Bridgestone Arena and the tickets are bound to be some ridiculous price.

Why the question mark?

Matt Guillory is not to be trusted! Sneaky fingers, you know.

5. Theocracy As the World Bleeds

I just downloaded this album - MelodicRock.com had one of the tracks up and it sounded awesome. I'll definitely want to listen to the rest of it, I guess. Wink

Constance Curry's "Silver Rights," a biography of one Mississippi family's journey into the desegregation of schools. (The Carter family, the subject of the book, was the first to send 9 of their 13 children to a previously all-white school in 1965, and for the first year, they were also the only family to do so.)

So far, this book is excellent, but also heart-breaking.

The videos have been blocked in Germany by GEMA Sad.

Do you know "1984" by George Orwell? G. Orwell describes the horrors of life in a totalitarian "Big Brother" state that monitors its citizens around the clock everywhere they go. Especially, I liked the chapters (2-3) where Winston and Julia begin a love affair, and subsequently, they were arrested by the Thought Police and delivered to the Ministry of Love for interrogation ...

Actually, that was why I noticed that stuff in the video. I just finished reading 1984 today.  Tongue

After reading about GEMA, I'm sorry to hear that. They sound like a piece of work. If you can, try looking up "Brown Eyed Girls - Sixth Sense." That's the second music video I linked to. It's definitely worth finding. You might be able to see it on their official website if they have it up.

Okay, so there's this Korean restaurant my husband and I love to eat at (Seoul Garden), and they're always playing reruns of MBC America's "Music Core," which features current K-Pop artists. I've become addicted to these two songs (and I have developed mild crushes on Han SeoungYeon, from KARA, and Son Ga-In, from Brown Eyed Girls, because they are hot. Wicked hot.)

Both are really catchy songs, but I especially like what the directors did with "Sixth Sense" - they really nailed the Eastern Communism images and concepts and made an interesting statement about sexuality and totalitarian states. I like it when people use music videos to give songs extra significance.

Mecca - Undeniable

Damn, Joe Vana can sing. It's so not fair. He sounds like he just opens his mouth and music comes out. ARGH.

It seems there is a conspiracy to not let anyone listen to the album for free online, except as samples. So here's a link to the Amazon page:

Argh! When I get home, I'll edit the link. I'm sorry. It worked for me last night...
