I saw them last night in Amsterdam and will see them tonight in Düsseldorf. I avoided spoilers and only knew of Space-Dye Vest (the biggest spoiler of all times) and The Mirror (one of my very favorite DT songs). Let me tell you: the show is absolutely awesome!!! The animations, the form of the band, the setlist, it was excellent! And our Captain is in the best shape of his entire career!!!

I could get a backstage pass for me and a friend this time and got to meet the whole band, so finally I got to exchange a few words with Captain James LaBrie, whom I let know he's one of my favorite singers! I'm so happy!!!

The great, the spoiled (btw, Henry, you did it!) Space-Dye Vest.

I got spoiled, but I didn't spoil you!  Tongue

I've spent my weekend listening to every Dream Theater Album back to back. the new album is definitely my favourite.
It has the best songs, The Enemy Inside, The looking Glass, The Bigger Picture, Behind The Veil, Surrender To Reason and the epic master piece, Illumination Theory. I also enjoy Listening to Dramatic Turn of Events, Black Clouds And Silver Linings, Systematic Chaos, Train of Thought and Images and Words.

I can't wait to see Dream Theater live at the Riverstage in Brisbane Australia.

It's the kind of album that grows on you the more you listen to it. So rich in details and yet so different from their other ones.

I saw them last night in Amsterdam and I'm seeing them tonight in Düsseldorf. You're gonna love the show! It's really amazing from every point of view.

A debate about music is one thing but I won't take a mud slinging match here...ESPECIALLY against music that the rest of the band is PROUD OF.

+1 Donna!

As for the album. I've been listening to it a lot and love it... exactly because it's different!

How boring it would be if a progressive band wouldn't try different stuff at points in their career! I love the fact that they're relying on melodies (where James had a lot to do from a songwriting point of view) as much as they always do on musicianship. The result is catchier songs that are really well crafted, where everyone's performance is flawless. I'm not in love with the album's mix, but talking about it musically, it's definitely a turning point in their career. Just my two cents  Smiley

SO... I've been gone so long (and was here for such a brief time when ADOTE was released) I feel like I need to reintroduce myself. Been away due to helping my family adjust to the totally sudden death of my mother.

Now I'm back and Dream Theater has released this album for streaming and all I have to say is this: I've been listening to them since 95. Bought Images and Words, then realized that Awake had come out. It's been non-stop DT for me ever since. After listening to this album a few times through I can say, without a doubt, this is my number 1 favorite record. It's just... so good it almost hurts. Some best melodies they've ever written, James sounds his absolute best here. I mean... you're not supposed to sound like you're in your 20s when you're 50, kids. The riffs and flashiness are at their all time best and the songs - as songs - are just top notch.

My only problem is... I can't pick a favorite yet. I just can't. Every time I go "ok... that's just my favorite song", I go to the next one and think "Oh crap... that's amazing too".

Magical. Beginning to very end.

James, you and company have made what was a horrible, gutting year, turn out to have something beautiful - in addition to my precious family. I know this is just a record from a band, but this is music and my mother LOVED music. Even though she wasn't a real rock fan, she even loved Dream Theater because she could feel the passion inside the amazing talent. So it's fitting that I now listen to music at its finest from 5 of the most talented men on the planet.

Thank you.

Nice to see you again, Splinter. My condolences on the passing of your mother. I'm happy to read that DT music has cheered you up under such a difficult readjustment. That's the power of music!

This album is awesome and I haven't been able to stop listening to it over and over everyday.

By the way, release date in Germany was today and I received an e-mail that delivery is delayed but it's on it's (sic) way! Very disappointing. They haven't seen me the link for digital download either. I purchased it from Warner Music Shop directly. Other friends in Germany received their CDs today.

Anyway, now it's even on Spotify, so I'm streaming it from there as I type this, enjoying ever single note, beat, word, everything!!!

As I wrote on my twitter:

First impression: #DreamTheater sound fresh and vital. Songs are catchier than usual but keep a hard edge. The last song is a true epic!

Mine will arrive next week, but Amazon lets me stream it already, so I'm listening to it for the 3rd time. Excellent follow up to Static Impulse! Growls don't bother me personally and I like the mixture of styles in the album.
15  General Category / General Music Chat / Re: DREAM THEATER UNVEILS MILESTONE NEW ALBUM on: July 11, 2013, 03:21:41 am
Looking at the cover artwork and tracklist structure, I'd expect the new album to be Dream's Theater's  own "The Dark Side Of The Moon". Incredibly excited Smiley

Excellent analogy  Grin
