Got my copy yesterday (autographed, but all 5 are illegible scribbles).  I'm on the second time through.  Has moments of awesomeness, looking forward to this live.
I just saw the setlist from last night.  No Ghost Reveries at all... Sad  I am still looking forward to it, but I wonder how much of their fan base will take a pass on this tour.

Is this guy for real?  The stuff he has trained himself to do is absolutely sick.  Unless you have ever played the drums, you have no idea how difficult it is to switch the hi-hat playing to your opposite foot.  It takes so much practice, most people (including myself) would say "why bother?"  Of course, MM does it just to get better and better.  His instructional books get into this as to the mind/body relationship in playing and are quite fascinating.

I tried. I can't do it. Impossible for me.

I definitely like moments of it, but I'll reserve judgment until I can get my paws on the real thing and spin it a few times.
I just love Mikael's voice so much.  The organic mix is lovely and I totally dig the sound of the drums.
Still it's gonna take a while before anything knocks ADTOE out of the constant play on my iPod & stereo.

Great interview with Mike Mangini. The guy is so humble and classy. Just look at the way he answers the question about MP coming back for a DT reunion. http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/dream-theaters-mike-mangini-on-drumming-with-prog-metals-kings-496667

My man-crush on Mangini has officially reached shameful levels.  Pure class with mad skills.  When I grow up, I wanna be like Mike!

The new Opeth album, Heritage, is available on npr.  I just searched "Opeth NPR" and got a link.
It is lighter, but nothing like Damnation.

I was hoping the On the Back of Angels was an exception with respect to the mix.  I am still waiting to get a copy tonight, but my impression of the mix of OTBOA was not enough drums!!
I guess I got used to the DT drum mix being on top.  I really focused on the mix of the old albums while working out this AM and in many songs the drums are the loudest of all instruments.  As a drummer and a big MP fan, this is o.k. with me, but I can see it being "over the top".  But this mix takes it in another direction...almost to the drums as background.  From what I understand you can actually hear JMX in parts, which will be a welcome departure... Wink
I'm reserving final judgment until I can actually hear the entire thing, which I am looking forward to into the wee hours of tonight.

I poked on the Roadrunner German site to feed my curiousity, but it didn't work so I'm back to waiting.  It is going to be a long weekend.

Good to see a fresh look...be better to see a Denver date added to that tour schedule!

I had thought there was reference to a second North American leg in a JP interview at some point.   I hope so, but in this case I am very glad I'm going to Utah for that show.

The damn SmithTix site for the Salt Lake City show is worse than TicketBastard.  I finally gave up and threw down $275 for the M&G VIP ticket.  I wish Periphery was opening in SLC instead of Trivium.  o.k. I'm done bitching.
I wonder when they will be back in North America for the second leg.

I am listening to Falling into Infinity right now...probably had one glass too many of wine...
I heard a line from a movie once that said, "Now is the time to do what is right instead of what is easy."  (I may or may not be paraphrasing, see above).  I know the whole break up has got to be part living hell for MP, but he did what he thought what was right at the time instead of what was easy and I respect the hell out of him for it.  He is really trying to make the best of it and I sincerely hope for the best for him.  Having said that perhaps he made the right choice, it never made it the easy choice and now some extremely difficult decisions are forced to be made.  He has to protect what he helped build and I assume at the end of the day at least legally it will be on the up-and-up.
Without MP Dream Theater would not be where they are today, and as a founder of the band and a shareholder of Ytse Jam, Inc., he is entitled to monetary compensation for his roll in both.
I sincerely hope that every DT release from here on out eclipses the last and that everything MP touches goes Gold.
As a side note, Lines in the Sand fucking rocks!!  Sorry for the semi-drunk ramblings.
Hugs to all!

The video, unfortunately, isn't available on NetFlix so you have to purchase it.  You can check out their website http://www.adrummersdream.com/    to get a feel for it.
My wife fell in love with Mangini after watching him in this video.  The drummers who led this camp are not only great drummers, but exceptional people with a high level of professionalism and charisma.
