Title: Introduce yourself thread!
Post by: ERiKofSWE90 on December 09, 2008, 12:25:31 pm
Hello, Im new here ;D. I would love to chat with James, and was wondering if he ever answers questions and if he will ever create a "info-forum", the same as MP got on he´s site? There are like many questions and you can search for something you are intressted in and check Mike´s answer. Will this ever be created here?? :-\

Welcome to the Board Erik!  We hope you enjoy your stay here and meeting with fellow fans of James and of DT's music.  Uhhh....there is no poll here though.  The poll isn't for questions for James, right?
We don't really have a set "question and answer" thread for James at this time, but if it changes, you will see it reflected on the Board.  I do have a "Messages to James" thread started in case you do want to express your feelings respectfully to him.
He does come here, but I guess only when he has the time.  Remember, he does have a family life, so we have to respect his privacy - he isn't going to check here every day.  Every band member and their Board is different/

Anyways, please come and chat with us.  We always like to meet new people!

 ;D

Thanks for the answer! Yeah I hope that James will some say make a big facts-forum, like Portnoy have.

Hope that James gets more time for he´s site here (Even if I DEEPLY respect that he got much things always going on haha) and for releasing a new solo-disc.

Thanks Donna. By the way, who are you? A freind of James? I read that you live in Toronto too.

Erik

No.  I am in no way connected to James.  I started out with DT when I&W came out, but kind of "lost touch" with their music.  Then, just after a few things happened in my life, a friend of ours (my husband's good friend - musician) re-introduced the music to us via ACOS, and from then on we were hooked.  i found the first version of this Board about 6 or 7 years ago, and Rob and Jennifer asked me to help out just after i had my little girl about 5 yrs ago.
I am a fan, just like you.  Nothing more...nothing less.

My name is Aaron...I live in TX and have been a DT fan since Images.  I frequent the DT board and was recommended to check out the new site.  My new job allows me a lot of down time, so it is nice to be able to chat with fellow fans.

My name is Dargor... but I was born as Martijn  ;) I live in Holland, I am almost 35 years old and I work as a journalist. Besides that, I love to sing and write. All kinds of art interest me in fact.

Dream Theater is not my favorite band... It is - and will forever be - Queen  :)

This is Dave, 30, I'm a self-employed licensed aviation technician. ;D I've been working on contract lately, so I'm jumping around the US alot. I'm originally from the Northeast, but I've lived in Florida for almost 15 years, I love it there! Besides Jemsite, this is the only music forum I belong to. In my off-time, I still do aviation-related stuff, but I also like outdoor activities, especially the beach! I played alot of guitar in high school, and I've picked it up again a few months ago. JP's Rock Discipline dvd is a great learning tool!

Been a huge DT fan since SFAM, and I really love the earlier albums too!

James is the perfect prog/metal-band singer in my opinion. Love Elements of Persuasion and the Mullmuzzler albums too!

I've made a lot of friends as a DT fan and some of them are especially special  :D..you know who you are  ;)
DT is part of my life everyday, there's no day without DT's music  ;)

From Dec 13th, 2008:

Me next! Me next! Me next!

I'm Stephanie, 22 years old, from grand ol' Queens, New York. I'm an EMT-B (Emergency medical technician), but am unemployed. I spend my days playing with my nephews, my dogs, and singing in the car with my beloved boyfriend. I've been a DT fan since I as nine years old, and have seen DT five times, as well as three side projects. My favorite DT album is WDADU. I also have a pretty purple Majesty symbol tattooed.  :)

As of November 1st, 2010:
Practically 24 years old. I now live in Las Vegas! Moved here about a month and a half ago to be with my boyfriend, whom I met on MP.com back in 2003!! I just got a job working at McDonalds. Not ideal, but as my Dad said "it pays in US dollars". I've now seen DT six times, and many more side projects. I'm still very much a DT snob.

I should probably do this...noticing a lot of new people around here. I took it for granted for a while that I knew most of the regulars. :P

I'm Michelle, also known as an assortment of diminutives based on "Michelle," and also known as Nicoli by most people in T3H INTARW3BZ. I'm 21 for now, currently studying Music Business and Composition at Berklee College of Music, and I've been hanging around on this board since I was 16, drooling over James and his godly voice with the rest of you. ;) I will soon be moving to Nashville with my fiance, where I hope to establish several varied but music-related careers in songwriting, publishing, intellectual property law, performance, marketing/promotion, and even some film making...who knows. I used to be a huge prog fan, but thanks to some other board members, I turned my attentions to melodic hard rock of the '70s and '80s and found a whole other world that I totally love. However, that has not diminished my affections for LaBrie and the crew. ;)

w34vi1 here, or Ash depends on what you want to call me. I am 19 years old, Majoring in Exercise Sports Science (but i have to make my degree as I go along) at Oregon State University. I play a wide assortment of instruments, from bass, guitar, keyboards, trombone, trumpet, tuba, baritone, saxophone and I sing a little. Most of the times I write music, for the fun of it, although I am currently working on writing a soundtrack for a movie a buddy and I are working on. I currently live in Harrisburg Oregon (between Eugene and Albany). I got into DT my Freshmen year of high school (03-04), which it wasn't until my Senior year did I learn DT had been in Oregon, March of '04. Since then I have had three tours pass my area (8V, CIM, and Progressive Nation) and after i read Mike's comment of going to places they haven't been to in a while, I hoped my area was one of them... but they passed it up each time. I have only been to ONE concert (Queensryche, 6th row seats). Other concerts seem to not fit my "schedule" or i am forced to do other things, (DT in Seattle on James b-day -> Lacrosse game. Megadeth in Salem for Gigantour -> Prom). I have the worst luck with concerts.

Or even better, say what you mean when you mean it. ;) Flirting's more fun if you know it's all a joke. It's less fun if one or both people are wondering how deeply the words go.

Seriously though, you were right. Online it is sometimes not completely clear how someone's words should be understood. But you know me well enough, same goes for Eva. Besides, there WAS some truth in my words. I have seen lots of nice and cool girls here. And I liked that.

I wasn't even directing my commentary at you specifically, just commenting in general. :) I can always tell that you're not serious when you flirt, Martijn, because you've actually said so before. I remember things like that because they're important to know. :)

Well, 'suppose after hitting up the welcome thread I could spot down something about myself.

My Screen name is my actual name, studied to be an Actor in college and graduated. I'm from a lovely little hovel in the Great white North of Ontario to which our hobbies included listening to music and drinking. Now my aspirations of pursuing  a professional acting career and testing my liver against Southern Ontario will be taking me to Toronto in about 2 weeks. I've been a Dream Theater fan for a couple years now and was excited to know that James Labrie had done solo albums and that they've been excellent albums.

Anyway, I'll catch you all later,

Brent.

Hi Folks!

I'm back! Hope you all still remember me!
I'm gonna introduce myself anyway:

Hi! I'm Karlo I'm a young opera singer from Croatia. At the moment I'm singing at the national opera house in Split. I live with my fiancee in Split and we're planning to get married soon.
Fascinated by all kinds of music! I listen to Dream Theater since I was 17 I've seen them 4 times live. Will hopefully see them again on tour now. Well that's basically it. I'm happy to be back and i like the new forum very much! Good work guys!

Firstly I'm so happy to be with you,
I'm Sercan Teoman from Istanbul, TURKEY.

I'm so glad to be fan of James LaBrie, his voice is unique. Actually I love DT but James is more  ;D
His solo albums (EOP and Mullmuzzler) I keep listening all time.
In the same time, I try to have the albums that LaBrie sings  ;)

Here is a thing.
At 2005, DT was here in Turkey for a concert,
There was such a funny thing about we calling out as aundicence,

One Side screaming Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
The Other Side screaming Brieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
After sometime,
it got weird and unmeaningful cos it didn't sound like La-Brie  ;D and then I realized that James smiled  :o
That's just a memory  ::)

I never forget the performance of LaBrie, come again  ;)

Well I guess I missed this thread before so here goes...

Hello, I'm Leo, born Guillaume.  I got into DT when I saw them at a Deep Purple show in '98.  Got really into them, got all their albums, but did not like the chaotic atmosphere of the other boards so here I came to this peaceful haven, and somehow strangely fun place that is the JLB forum, where I've met some pretty cool people.

I live in Laval, a suburb of Montreal, in Canada.  I now have my own music and sound design production company, nothing big and fancy, working off of small contracts.  I also work part-time as a web developer (my former full-time job).  I play in a Muse tribute band called Bliss, where I am singer/guitarist/keyboardist, and in a rock-alternative cover band where I am lead singer.  In my spare time, I also play all the typical rock instruments (vox/guitars/bass/keys/drums in approximately this order of proficiency), or, when I'm not feeling productive at all, Rock Band.

Hi all,
my name's Natalie and I'm DT fan since Octavarium era (yep, I'm not that old). I currently work as a school teacher, play bass and am a part-time singer for a few local pub bands. I have also co-written one fantasy anti-utopia novel which probably is no good to any of you as it is in Russian  :) Love meeting new people and finding kindred spirits - that's why I'm here.

Hello, My name is Rodney and I am from Ohio, USA. I've been a Dream Theater fan since "Images and Words". I first heard that record when I was in college. I always loved "Awake" and have recently gotten way back in to DT's newer music since then. I love each and every release for the unique approaches and music style inherent in the song structures. My favorite releases include "Awake", Scenes From a Memory", "Octavarium", and "Train of Thought". James is an amazing singer. The whole band amazes me. The musicianship is eaxtraordinary and unparalleled. I love various forms of art and music is very important to me. While my day job is in payroll, my offtime is filled with doing sketches (mostly portraits), playing guitar as a hobby, and reading. I just wanted to say hi to everyone here.

Thank you Donna! You are very kind. It is nice to meet you as well. I mostly do portraits and work in graphite instead of color, but I decided to tackle the "Awake" cover with colored pencils. I'm glad you like it. I'm not proficient enough to use color on regular face portraits yet. However, I am excited to  share with you and the other  fans the black and white portraits I have completed of each current DT band member. I will try to get them ready to share before th eend of the week. I usually upload my celebrity artwork to my gallery at star-portraits.com, but this is a much better forum to share my Dream Theater works. Thanks again for the warm welcome!

I didn´t notice  that you have started this topic a long time ago (last reply March 10)..I´m rescuing this one from the very beginning

I am always interested in knowing nationalties, ages, genre and stuff like that of the forum members because (I think) that´s the only way you´ll understand their answers correctly..

so here I go:

Like I said a couple of days ago in a post, I was a "regular" member of this forum 4 or 5 years ago and now I´m back, so I know (at least for his/her name) most of the people here..

but evidently there are new guys and I don´t know them (and of course don´t know me)

I´m Arkabarca from Mexico, 31 years old,  I got into DT maybe in 97 or 98 when I heard from my schoolmate´s cd player (a guy who didn´t like me at all by the way) a song that I knew it and which I loved it at the time (and in this time too): Led Zeppelin´s The Rover from the ACOS album, so I said to my schoolmate: "who are these guys??, this cover sounds pretty cool" ...the rest is story and now I´m here (and my then schoolmate gained my respect again  ;D ). I have the pleasure to see DT´s 20th anniversary tour in Mexico City (the one and only DT show I have seen).

I´m architect and I´m not involved in music bussiness at all (I don´t sing or play intruments ) ..but I like good music and the rest of the arts..In my spare time I love reading and writing novels (well I´m working in my first yet) and poems. One of my favorite writers is the colombian Gabriel Garcia Marquez. My full time job is about urban development and my side-job is doing projects and maintenance of small hospitals (meanwhile) and other health buildings with a group of architects I established a couple of years ago.

that´s what I am... nice to meet you guys

Title: Re: Introduce yourself thread!
Post by: Jacob on August 21, 2009, 06:12:11 pm
Hi guys!

Well, my name is not Jacob at all! It's just a tribute to my favorite Rush song: Jacob's Ladder. My real name is Rafael Lincoln. As I said before, I'm originally from Brazil where I currently live as well. I'm actually 26 years old and about to get married next February.

When I was 14, a real close friend of mine gifted me a K-7. He just said: "Rafa, just listen to it! You will love it!" It's was an Awake recording. At that time, I was appealed to a Dixie Dregs CD I had just got. Steve Morse has become my favorite guitarist since then. So I didn't pay much attention to his gift. Besides that, so many "melodic metal" bands was on the scene and I think they were all so boring. In my aberrance, I thought Dream Theater was just one more kind of. Well, when I finally decided listening to the K-7  a new kind of passion blew my heart up. Coincidentally, when I started playing the tape it shouted: "Callow and vain, fixed like a fossil ..." I needn't relate the end of this story, I guess!  :D I was introduced to the progressive taste by my dad. Bands like Queen and Journey I found out by myself.

Well, a guitarist who plays like Morse, a drummer who plays in Peart style and a vocalist with the range of the masters Mercury and Perry. No doubt, I finally found my generation band. And Awake since then is my favorite Dream Theater album.

Voices [Forum] is not a new to me. I had so many different nicks since then: rhard, ytsebr and so on. I like sports, rock and kiss my baby!

And I like you all as well.

Hope to meet you all in a concert one day. Who knows in a DT concert at Rock in Rio? Around 250,000 audience?  :o :o :o Dreams are made of this!  ;)

Cheers!!!

Thanks Rafael for telkling us some facts about you! It was intresting.

Im Erik, Im from sweden and Im 19. I started to dig Dream Theater for like 3 years ago when a freind showed them to me. I love music and art, I play drums (with great passion) and I will try my best to get involved at some point in the music business or maybe a drum teacher or something. I also love to paint and draw. You can see some of my work (and also some pictures thats not really art too!!) at my deviantart user: 888erkan888.deviantart.com

Right now Im in a driver course and will hopefully get my driverlicense soon! I spend most of my time practising practising and practising drums, but when I do something else I like to hang with freinds, walk, draw, listen to music, run or simply have a great time! :)

I love animals, being in the nature, playing music, discussing topics...Im also a big fan of science and enjoy to read all about the latest theorys or facts, in all possible topics. Im mostly intrested in nature/biological stuff.

I hate people thats not open to views, ignorance, racist people that think they know everything. I dont like soda, handshakes, hugs, blackmetal and good hairdays!! ::) (I want my hair to look bad :D ).

Ash, I've never heard you speak, but from the one or two pictures I've seen of you, I never would have mistaken you as a dude. :P However, I feel ya on the low voice thing. to be honest i don't care what people think i am... as long as i can be me.  ;D  everyone always assumes, because i have very short hair, I sound like a 14 year old boy and i do wear baggy clothes so you can't really tell from the obvious...

I don't mind, either...I've always wanted to be kind of ambiguous in how others perceive my gender. Just that at the time, I was getting tired of the same damn question (like my gender was any of their business!), and people at school already had enough reasons to make my life a living hell. ::) Nowadays, people keep their nastiness to themselves.

Hello to all!

My name is Henry. I am from Venezuela and for a year now I have been living in Germany. I have been a fan of Dream Theater since 1995, when I "discovered" them. It was a sort of revelation to me, as prog-metal was still not so popular in my country and with this band I found my favorite music styles so well fusioned with such great musicianship.

A dream came true twice for me when they played in Venezuela (2005 and 2007). I was working with the organization for both concerts and could see them backstage, but they were very private and I only actually met Jordan Rudess (what a great guy!). There are many many anti-James "fans" in my country and most of them had to shut the *beep* off after hearing James' performances, especially that show in 2005 which was "An Evening With" and required James to sing so many songs. The scream in Octavarium gave me the chills!

I'm a guitarist/singer myself and I admire James very much. I think his voice is unique and distinguishable. I also think live flaws for which he is so attacked happen to every singer. Even such an awesome singer like Freddie Mercury had many bad live moments, and such I've heard from people like Rob Halford or Bruce Dickinson. The voice is the hardest instrument because it's within your body and many aspects have an influence on it.

Anyway, I look forward to see Dream Theater for the third time, now in Berlin  ;D

Also, look forward to interact with other James and DT fans in this nice place.

Greetings,

Henry

Hello everyone, I'm Alice, haven't been a DT fan for long, only a few months, I heard one of their songs on Spotify Radio and liked it, so checked out some of their other songs and now they're my favourite band.    :P  My favourite album is either Systematic Chaos or Train of Thought.

I am 16 and from England but have lived in France for almost 4 years now.  I have lots of animals including 5 parrots, 3 dogs, 9 guinea pigs and a bunny.  I like drawing, horse riding, video games and riding my bike.

Hi everyone

My name is Hayley and I'm from Northern Ireland.  I've been into Dream Theater for around 4 years.  My fiance and I have been together for 5 years and he introduced them to me.  My favourite member is James, I think his voice is amazing.  I love all the other members of the band.  I've been to see them twice, once in Blackburn and then again a few days ago in Manchester (both in England).  DT have never been to either Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.  That's irritating as they have a big following here.  There are three fans at my work alone.  I'm a psychiatric nurse but in order to understand me you have to know I'm also an ex member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces, serving during the "Troubles".  As you can imagine the songs that mean the most to me personally are Six Degrees, Prophets of War and Sacrificed Sons.  It's good to meet you all.

I should've seen them on 31st of October in Ljubljana, but things got wrong so I stayed at home staring at the concert ticket which I bought few months earlier. :'( I think that was the saddest day of my life. But I'm hoping the will come to Croatia soon. ;)
I think James Labrie is amazing, well, let me put it this way, when I'm chatting with my friends, it almost always ends up with me asking "Why I can't sing like James Labrie?? ??? "
Yeah, I think that shows how much I adore him. :D

Nice to meet ya all! ;D

I'm sorry you didn't get to go to that concert. But you can rest assured that DT will be coming around again before you know it. ;)

Hi there Sanja -
Sorry it took me a while to respond.  I was just trying to get my house cleaning done for the week and I am also bouncing around the house listening to the new Trans-Siberian Orchestra to get myself ready for the concert tonight - I still am hoping to get there!   :D :D :D

HOWEVER - warm welcome to you.  Another Croatian!  That's great!  We have another Croatian fan here (Karlo).
We hope to get to know you and have interesting chats with you!

Hi all!
My name's Ilya, I'm from Moscow, Russia. I'm Dream Theater fan since 2008, (am I "youngest" here?  :) ), but they're in my top-bands-of-all-time now. I love classical European, American and Russian literature, movies, photography, my job (I'm an engineer) and, of course, music.
I like to spend my free time walking around the city with my friends, trying to find something interesting, that I've never seen before, sometimes playing video games, or just reading and listening to my music collection. I like to educate myself, learning something new about world, that surrounds me.
Hope to find here new interesting people and find kindred spirits :)

Hi, my name is Tarvi, i'm from Estonia and i've been listening DT for a few years now. I heard my dad listen to Once in a LIVEtime and shortly after nicking his CD, i found out about Dream Theater. My first comment about them as a young metalhead was: "That's awesome! Who are they?" I also thought from the start that they always had the same people as i saw on the CD cover(it was somekind of MP3 CD with alot of DT songs, bootlegged.) But after a quick Wikipedia check i fell in love with Dream Theater and James' vocals had stuck with me. Since they are awesome. I finally went to see them live in 2009, in Frankfurt. I also bought a DT shirt which i wear..frequently, everywhere, every time. In life, however, i'm a 15 year old kid who loves to write, rock out to music and see if he can match James. Which i can't. I also like to lurk(the good kind of lurking) in forums. Mainly because i dunno what to post.

Seeya around,

Tarvi

Nearly 3am here and I cannot sleep. lol.

I used to be an amateur, I am self taught in my writing, I started writing for the very same reason, sadness, not just sad, I was totally broken. When my boyfriend was killed in a car accident it ripped me apart, my brother was killed on his motorbike three years earlier (he was a member of the National Chopper club and had two motorbikes which he used to always be customizing) I was still coming to terms with his death, I went off the rails, I hated the world, that lasted six months, I just sat down one day and started writing, it flowed out of me and gradually I started coming to terms with everything and got my act together, life has constantly tested me ever since, and I kept writing and got through it, today I am stronger than I have ever been and I have one hell of a lot of poems lol, life will never break me because I shall keep on writing. I never force what I write, if it does not flow naturally, then I do not write.
So keep on writing, it is good for the soul and the mind.

Anita  ;)

Well, so I'm new here, huh  ;D

My name's Amélie, I come from France as I said and well... what a surprise if I tell you that I enjoy so much that guy up there called something like... James..  :)
I'm pretty young compared to some of you, I was born in 1990, I let you imagine... ^^
It's weird to find me on a forum, I'm not used anymore to use the web so much!
I feel like telling you that I've discovered Dream Theater last year only... So late, what a pity!
I saw them in 2007, performing during the Hellfest festival, here in France, and was with a friend that was so CRAZY about them, and I enjoyed, of course, but later didn't take the time to listen more about them.
It's been a year now that I'm living with a weird and freak Spanish guy (who I love anyway huh :D), and he loves them so much... I asked him "hey... how can I try to enter in the world of those guys who seems to be... huge?".... because there were so much albums that I didn't know which one did I had to listen.
He told me to begin with Images and Words and talked about a singer, a "James LaBrie" who, as a singer myself, I'd enjoy... and well... little by little... I've discovered the greatest world ever and now I'm here...
And, wow, I've written a lot now...
Thank you for your welcoming and read from you soon!

Hello, all!

I am an Englishman with the disappointingly generic birth name Alex. When I was a child not yet a decade old, my older brother showed me a song - a song about the cycle of life and the passage of time that still brings tears to my eyes with every listen. This was, of course, A Change Of Seasons. It was a piece of music that changed me forever, as since that day I have sought emotion and creativity extensively, and lived a fuller, happier life as a result.

Dream Theater have remained, in my eyes, the greatest musicians in the world, a band whose lowest points of songcraft are still sonic gold and whose masterpieces sound like the music of seraphs sung from heaven's throne. But it was only recently that I began to delve into the extensive world of solo efforts and side projects from DT's members. I was pleasantly surprised by James' own albums, with His Voice having since become one of my favourite songs. Naturally, following the works of James LaBrie brought me here, and I can only look forward to my time on this forum.

It´s a wonderful pleasure when you get hooked with a band and discover it has a ton of music behind...so never it´s late...I discovered them after their first 4 or 5 albums and it was great look for them!...enjoy all that wonderful music like a good wine meanwhile we wait for the new album...

By the way, welcome to the board!

Yes, you're right!
And the most important is that I've finally "found" them... I knew them before but didn't really pay attention (I even saw them in a festival, was amazed, but too lazy then to search for music or something..... because I knew they had a large discography already  ;D). But well, now their music has a huge importance in my life and I'm glad for that, sure you understand that point!

Have a good day!

Hi Mike...welcome to the Board!
I think John Myung did have a forum at one point, but it was taken down for reasons I am not sure of.  I don't know if it was negativity or whatever, but it doesn't exist anymore.  I agree,  it would be nice if he had one, but maybe it's not on his own priority list right now.  He's a family man too...
Thanks for joining and we look forward to chatting with you.... :)

I'm also member on the MP forum (same username) and I got a Youtube account where I post cover and original songs. I recently did a cover of The Silent Man and people liked it. If you wanna see it and comment/subsribe/add, I would be really happy  ;). Next song I will cover is Trains by Porcupine Tree if you're interested. I've been a Dream Theater fan for 3 years now. Simply the best music I have ever listened in my life!  :o I hope I'll have fun here with you guys  :)

PS. Sorry for my eventual english mistakes, I'm still learning it  :P

Hi everybody! Wasn't sure if I should use this thread or the one on the General Music Chat to introduce myself...

But my story fits in here better, I think! Anyway! I'd been a member of the old LaBrie Forum and I sometimes post on the Jordan Rudess Board. Yes, DT also is my favourite band, though sometimes I find it hard to decide, because I like a bunch of bands very much, especially Marillion and Symphony X.
At the moment I listen a lot to DT and their Sideprojects/Solo projects. And, believe it or not, not because I want to listen to them a lot, but because my two year old daughter wants to (not that I have anything against it.*biggrin*)! She actually is the biggest fan since my husband and I watched a DT-DVD the evening we learned about MPs departure from DT. Several times a day she asks something like:"Mommy, turn the music on - with James singing - John Beducci (means Petrucci of course) playing guitars." One day she stood in front of the TV, James on the screen, she obviously fascinated, saying:"His singing is so beautyful!" Well, I could only agree...

About me: I'm an Architect, but at the moment I'm mother and homemaker. Used to play the piano, but not anymore. Love to sing, but just for myself. Tried the guitar, but gave it up soon. I'm good at painting/drawing, sculpturing, knitting and having headaches :P
I love everything to do with Japan (Japanese food, culture, architecture, language, people...).
I'd been introduced to progressive music by my father at the age of 13, never knowing that it was progresive music, though. So I kept looking for music I might like in the wrong places for a long time (radio, Billboard Charts, etc.). Now I have a huge CD collection to choose from and I hope that there will be more and more bands coming up playing progressive stuff.
I guess, that's enough for now! Thanks for reading me!

Isabel ^^

An Evening With
A Co-Headline with QR
A small club show
And them as openers for Maiden

Im 35, live in Ottawa Canada, married, 1 kid.

And regarding JP - I've got a JP-Wallpaper on my desktop (don't hit me, that it's not one of James) and, well, every time I start the PC and that pic pops up, she says:"Aahhh, there's Beducci - and where is James - where is James?

Well, thanks for the warm welcome, everybody :-)

...and Donna, I remeber that you wrote something like you started to be the "kind angel" of this "ship" after you had your (first) child. I wonder how you manage this?! I hardly find any time to be online since my daughter was born. She becomes very moody as soon as I sit here longer than ten minutes...
Anyway! Good job, Donna, thank you!

OMGosh, I am totally blushing.  Although, I am no "angel"!   :D :D :D  Frankly, I was just in the "right place" at the "right time". And glad to help out.   ;)  My daughter is now 7 years old, and I have raised her thus far to understand that she needs "her" time, and I need "my time".  She is a good girl...granted, still a 7 yr old!  It's hard when they are small though, I agree.....Enjoy your daughter....time goes by very very quickly.

Hello everyone! I'm a 21-year-old student from Finland, I study physics at the University of Oulu here in Finland, but hopefully I'll get into medical school next spring. I've been a fan of DT for about 6 or 7 years now and have attended to 2 shows of theirs in Helsinki. The experience of discovering DT has truly been a lifechanging thing for me, I started playing guitar because of JP  ;D and later I have also discovered a lot of great bands I probably  never would have heard of otherwise, like: Pain of Salvation, Opeth, Neal Morse, Spock's Beard and all the side projects that both the current and past members of DT have done.

that's about it I guess, nice to be here!  :)

My name is Gary, been listening to DT since I was 17...so they have been a large part of my life. As I have stated on a different thread I have spent some time over at the MP forum the past few years but there is something about the 'vibe' going on over there now that has seemed to isolate alot of people. From everything I have read/seen here, this is a very inviting place with alot of respectful individuals so I look forward to participating here and being able to discuss and enjoy all of James solo endevours and DT's future.
Personally, I have been blessed with the tasks of being a husband and father, and strive to provide the best that I can at both...for next to my faith they are the most important things to me in my life. Life before my marriage and children however fun and self indulgent it was compares nothing to the gifts that have accompanied marrying a wonderful woman and having 3 amazing kids! I genuinly wish everyone were so fortunate. I look forward to the future every day but never want to wish any of the time in the here and now away!
I hope to become however much of a 'friend' an internet chatroom will allow people to become, with those of you who are receptive to such an idea. Until another thread beckons.......

Gary

So we start a bit like David Copperfield

My Name is María Elena. I preffer to be called Elena. I have no problem
if you reffer to me as MetalliJedi, MJ or Hel (some friends call me that).
I don´t like María ... so please don´t call me that (I´ll ignore you if you do).

I currently live in Monterrey. This is the capital city of the northeastern
state of Nuevo Leon in the beautiful country called Mexico (out of necesity,
not by choice. I you ask me where I want to live I´d tell you Hamburg, Germany).

I´m 36 years old and I´m a freelance English teacher with a BA in
Communication Sciences (who knew I´d end up being an English
teacher). I have worked in online English projects for a local university.

I can´t live with out films , music and books (oohhh well... add internet to the list).

I have 3 nephews and 2 nieces that I call the chibies. No husband, boyfriend
or "special" friend and no biological kids.

I love japanese animation and photography.

 I don´t smoke and I occasionally drink.

I´m honest and loyal. I hate intolerance, lies and two face people.

My music taste is pretty ecclectic. From classical to heavy metal. From opera
to Blues.

I love Star Wars. I´ve been a fan since I was 3 years old.

I´m the kind of person that what you see/hear/read is what you get.
I don´t create a forum/internet persona... the way I talk/write is the way I am.

I Love the night, sunrises and sunsets. I´m odd and weird. I love a good laugh and
learning languages; Enjoy (who knew 4 years ago) teaching English.

I´m intense and a bit impulsive. Also a bit sarcastic and love to play and fool around.
I have a weird sense of hummor.

My weakness is candy (Skittles, Haribo, SweetTarts and winegums). I drink a lot Diet
Coke and still drink milk. I do like coffee, hot cocoa and tea (I´m madly in love with English
breakfast tea).  ;)

I´m a bit rough when showing affection (expect a light smack on the head or a
playful hit on your arm... all in the intention of showing lots of love but I won´t do it in a
way to harm you).  :D

Right now I´m in my pre-training period. I´m getting myself fit to start training in January.
In January I´ll start my training for New York  Marathon. I´ll run the marathon in 2012
(I´ve never run a marathon in my life, that´s why I´m  taking 2 years to prepare). I
don´t really care about the time, my goal is to  finish the bloody  thing.

My life´s dreams are to go to Egypt, interview Eric Clapton and direct a full
feature film (and/or working with Spielberg, Lucas, Burton, Tarantino, Scorsese).

I´d love to work as a rock journalist or as a film critic.

Well I think I covered all the basics.  Sorry if I blabbed... but I preffer to give this information
from start so you know if you still want to talk to me or not, hahahahahaha.  ;D

I don´t bite so ,  you can e-mail me or add me to MSN (just let me know you got my contact
 from here).

I updated my original post (on page 2), but will also post it here since I haven't posted much regularly...

My name is Thomas, and I've been a DT fan since 2000. I've only seen them play once in 2008 during the Systematic Chaos tour. I live in Australia, so it's not every year that I can hope of see them play.

For the last few months, i've been lurking here (and JP's and DTF forums) more than usual due to all the drama that has been going on, and finding out what most of us fans think of the departure of MP and the rest of the DT members and their direction for the band's future etc. And it's been very sad to see one of my favourite groups of musicians to go through this period of turmoil.

On the other hand, I am looking forward to hearing the music that DT will put out with the new drummer. It's all because of the positive messages from DT members and I feel reassured.

Merry Christmas to you all and have a safe and peaceful holidays.

Hey all.

I'm new and old  ;D My name is Marcos and once I was TheSurrounded, than MarcosBilly, but this username expired, I think. So, I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I'm a historian and a music lover. Got to know DT through a Awake cassete, recorded by my brother in law, Alex, who by the time wanted to please his girlfriend's family and now is married to my sister!. His weapon with me was to get me through my ears, with good music. Since that day, I'm a DT loyal fan. Thank you Alex! My other favorite bands are P.Floyd, Rush, Iron Maiden, Angra, Black Crowes, all Neal Morse stuff, and many many others I can't remember now. My heart-band, if I can use this expression, is Petra, who marked my life for so many reasons, and still does, although the guys retired. I think Donna agrees... All the best to everyone,

Marcos

Hey, I'm Alice, and the only reason I have such a stupid user name is because I use it forever. I thought it sounded cool when I came up with it! Honest! Before this it was Terranee after this kids show that I used to watch...Now which one sounds worse?

Anyway, I'm a fifteen year old who's in her last year of compulsory schooling, and I'm wanting to go on to study Drama, English Language, Literature and History over the next two years, then finally Theatre Studies at University. I enjoy Acting and Writing, in fact, I just wrote a play inspired by Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, which is being performed in the New Year, so thanks for that!

I used to be into whatever was popular, but since 2007-2008, I got into Dream Theater, and with that came Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Pain of Salvation and basically any band that writes good songs with meaningful lyrics.

Also, cute pictures, congratulations marcosf!

Hi, folks! My name is Loren. I'm a dude despite my name. Loren V. Burrell as I like to sign everything.

I've been married to the love of my life since August 5th, 2000. We just moved from Atlanta, GA to Indianapolis, IN. No reason other than we wanted to. She's lived in GA all her life and I've lived there 20 years too long. I hate that place. So we fell in love with Indy, my company said I could work remote and still manage my team and we moved here.

I will say that my Christian faith is extremely important to me, but I won't shove it down your throats. But I believe what I believe and there's nothing anyone can do to change my mind. I won't attack you for believing differently than I do, either.

I've been a DT fan since Awake. Love everything that they've done. You might say I'm a "fan-boy". If you say that, I will reply "Yep. So?" and then I will watch you die slowly from my stare. LOL Kidding. I really don't like anything in the prog vein other than DT. My other top 5 bands are Queen, The Beatles, Muse and Radiohead. I also love MuteMath, Ben Folds, Mike Viola, Switchfoot, Journey and many other bands and styles. I'm a classical music NUT, too.

I'm a manager of Interface Solutions in the healthcare IT industry. I'm a vocalist and musician (drums for 26 years as of this post and guitar for 21 years as of this post) and I have a band (as most of us do) and we've got an EP on iTunes (all over the world), Amazon MP3, Rhapsody and Napster. The band's name is mr. citizen (www.mistercitizen.com or facebook.com/mrcitizen) and our EP is called ...And So We Begin. Give it a listen for free on Grooveshark.com and then buy it if you're so inclined. I'd appreciate reviews and support.

I am happy to be a part of this board. It seems to be a better vibe than the MP forum. There it is. I said it.

Much love to you all. I look forward to getting to know my new forum family.

Hi, Marcos. I love Neal Morse's stuff since Testimony. I think it's refreshing to hear that type of music with that message. Also, I think it happens to be some of Mike's best drum work. I'm really praying for him (Mike) as he's with Neal right now during this difficult time for him.

I saw your introduction... I was just listening to Petra yesterday. This Means War, Fired Up and Beyond Belief albums all got played yesterday. I'm also a huge fan of Mylon & Broken Heart who started around the same time as Petra. My family is good friends with Mylon and he's just a great guy.

@Donna... Thank you so much for the warm welcome as well! I love it here already!

Hi Loren,
I liked Neal Morse from the Spock's Beard era. When he started the Christian journey, I started to like him more, it was realy satisfactory to me. You know, here in Brazil, Christian music is very poor, no quality at all. We used to have ok bands in the 90's and around 2000. But now, I can't listen to anything. I realy hope that Mike will be able to get some refresh to his soul from Morse.
The 1st time I listened to Petra, was in a friend's car, Wake Up Call album. This is a great album, John Schilit is singing like heaven in it, like always. Did you know that the early guys rejoined and recorded some old + 2 new songs? The album is "Back to the rock". Also, they released "Captured in time and space" on DVD! I'll buy it! I`m into Whitecross and Guardian as well. Whitecros rejoined, but don't know about future projects. Let's keep talking. All the best.

You are most welcome.  And count me in as a Petra fan.  I LOVE Beyond Belief and just love to crank Jekyll and Hyde out my car windows...in good weather of course.   :D  Got to meet John Schlitt and Bob Hartman on the farewell tour a couple of years ago.  Awesome .....

Ok, so you know that I posted here months back about my SDOIT inspired play being picked for a playwriting competition? Well, the play was performed this weekend. I cleared the first semi final and went into the final, where I lost out by one vote. Considering that I was fifteen when I wrote the play, and the other competitors were well into their thirties, forties, and fifties I guess I have to say thanks to DT for inspiring me to write such a good play!

So, play synopsis for anyone whose interested: The play followed the story of young Schizophrenia sufferer Leah, who became notorious for her delusional rants in public. Her parents, conscious of how having their daughter diagnosed as mentally ill would reflect on them, resorted to domestic abuse and creating a make shift asylum in her own bedroom. Under the influence of the personification of her illness, Seth, she became paranoid about her parents trying to kill her and resorted to attempting to kill them instead. In an act of self defence, the parents killed her. The media then flipped it's stance on her to one of tolerance.

Wow, that was you? Apparently, I don't read this thread well enough! I found a news story about this last week, and I wrote a post about it on our blog. Here's a link:

Anyway, congrats! That's a wonderful achievement.

AAAAAAH THAT'S AWESOME HAHA! I'm on more than one website!

I've bookmarked that page and sent it to my friend, that's made me feel amazing that has! Thank you!

Unfortunately, the play I'm writing for this year isn't Dream Theater inspired v.v hopefully, it will still be as good!

EDIT: My take on the Playwriting Competition! http://alices-teenage-life.blogspot.com/2011/03/creation-of-play.html (http://alices-teenage-life.blogspot.com/2011/03/creation-of-play.html)

I just noticed your signature… I'm only 5'2", so you've got some competition in the hobbit category!

Uhm... not really sure I should say anything, since this topic has not been touched for 120 days. However, I'm not sure if I'm really allowed to start new topics. I don't normally join websites unless I really like what the website is about, and because of that, I'm not too sure of the rules here.  ???

..... My name is Twitch, or at least, that's the alias I've adopted for now. For various reasons.  :-X

I'm a writer/storyteller, and currently working on a book of sorts. Several bands that I've listened to over the years, including Dream Theater, influenced me to take up a pen/pencil/typewriter and begin writing... although the bands I do listen to may not be aware of that tidbit of info. Trying to learn bass guitar...

I came here to this site to see if I could make a friend or two.  8)

I look forward to speaking with others.
