Eagles 1/31
Motley Crue 3/4

Get this - we just saw Madonna Wed. night, somebody who I'm not a huge, huge, fan of but I do like quite a bit of her songs. It's somebody who I wanted to see at least once in my life. After that show, it's will be my first AND LAST time seeing her. She did put on a good show, considering I didn't know half the songs, even the songs I didn't know, I enjoyed.

The thing that irked me was the ticket read a 7:30 start time. We figured she wasn't going to go on right at 7:30, she probably has an opening act, and she probably won't go on until about 9. We ended up not getting there until 8:40(don't ask). The lights were on in the stadium so we were like, cool, we can get to our seats between sets. We got to our seats, and asked the lady sitting next to me who she knew who the opening act was. She says 'There was no opening act." I asked "Nobody has played at all?" and she said, "No, we've all been sitting here over an hour". So again, I figure she would just go on at 9. She went on at 9:50!!

Some people had left before she went on. I wasn't leaving after what I paid for the ticket, and after driving all the way to Miami. I wouldn't leave until they actually announced that she wasn't going to be performing and that we could get refunds. That's the thing, at least someone could've done was announce something, like if she was sick, or if she wasn't even there yet or something!! When she finally went on stage, absolutely nothing was said from her. No apologies were waiting so long, no screw you suckers, nothing!!

I don't care who you are, I don't care how big of a star you are, you just don't do that to all the people who got you where you are now.

I really felt for all the other people who actually showed up on time!!

I saw Tina Turner a few weeks back. She went on about 20 minutes late. I can deal with that. Plus she made up for it with an unbelievable show. Going on over 2 hours late, there was no excuse for that.

Hi Andie - nice to meet you!
YES - that Madonna concert made the news up here in Toronto.  I am not a huge fan, but I am like yourself - I do indeed like quite a bit of her music.  I grew up with her for crying out loud!  However, what she did was not right.  She should have at least had the courtesy - but then again, it's Madonna.  She thinks she's larger than life, and frankly, I don't believe she practices what she preaches - with Kabala and all that.   Nonetheless, she does put on a good show, I hear.  I have never been to one, but MuchMoreMusic up here shows her last tour periodically.

Hmmm..I really want to go see Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but I don't know if we can go.  We'll have to see......

Let's hope it isn't full of drunken boos like Sydney (emo band or not as support after Steve Harris' daughter)

Hi Andie - nice to meet you!
YES - that Madonna concert made the news up here in Toronto.

Really??! Our show made the news up there? What about, about the fact that she went on so late or that is was the last show of her tour?

She probably figured it's her last show, Thanksgiving is the next day and most people are going to be off, so none of us have to be up early to go to work.

Well, whatever, her excuse was(it was probably, well, I'm Madonna, I can do what I want, so up yours), I don't see myself seeing her again, not that she's going to go in the poorhouse because of me!! :D

Well, I'm done with concerts this year.

I attended King Crimson in August (awesome!!) and met Su and her family. This past December I attended Jaguares (mexican rock band) and Trans-Siberian Orchestra (for the 7th straight year).

Mmm...I'm pretty sure I attended one or two other concerts this year but I can't remember.

Next year, hopefully I can attend Fates Warning and possible DT in the fall (if they start touring in America).

And I hope to see Brian May and Roger Taylor (Queen) again (if they release a better album than the last one).

http://progpowerusa.com/site/

looks like they go on sale in March. The Festival is September 11-12th. I don't know if they're gonna sell them per day..they did that 1 year, but Glenn lost money that year I recall. I think every year since they've done it so you can only buy tickets for the whole festival, which is both days. The pre-show/evening before thing is separate, but Fates won't be playing that as far as I know.

Fates is a big draw for me..but Andre to be honest, is the biggest reason I'm going, I've waited 11+ years to see him sing live,..and he's still probably my favorite operatic-type singer (with respect to Jimmy Gnecco and some others). I mean geez..I am known as "angra1" for a reason afterall :P. I'm also looking fwd to Orphaned Land.

UM...I just found out that TYKETTO--yeah, Tyketto--is coming to the US in January!! Considering this year's Firefest was supposed to be their last show, I am doubly amazed that a band like them would make it here, so even though their show is three hours away in Chicopee (middle of nowhere, basically), I am SO going. Danny Vaughn is the man!

Unfortunately, not many of my favorite bands ever come to the US, because there simply isn't a much of a market for old-style melodic hard rock, particular anything that sounds like hard rock made between 1986-1992.  :P However, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed...one of Frontiers Records' label managers actually told me that they plan to extend distribution into the US in the future, so maybe that'll bring some tours here, too. But shhh...I'm not supposed to tell. ;)

Hmmm...considering I'll be living in Nashville by then, that's not too far a drive. I might actually consider going. Plus Fates Warning = awesome. And ANDRE MATOS, WTF. Love that dude.

I also hope I can make it to Rocklahoma at some point, given that their lineup is as killer as it was this year. Effing HOUSE OF LORDS, man.

And one day...ONE DAY...Firefest UK. Oh yes. It will be mine. ALL MINE.

yes they were in Seattle for Chaos in Motion... however that is a LONG trip... 6+ hours to get there.

I also still want to see Megadeth live... i could have in May of this year... however my parents made me go to prom... (there are prob a few laughing about that. but hey Prom sucked.... and i heard the concert was awesome  :'()

I have to go see Travis at the House of Blues on April 26th...

And when I say "have to," I literally mean that it's for a class assignment. :P My Concert & Tour Promotion teacher is making each of us pick a show to go to that is at a venue seating 2000+, and instead of just watching the show, we have to answer a page-long list of questions about the venue management and the promotion of the show. Because Live was already sold out, I had to pick Travis, because I either couldn't stand the rest of the lineup of artists, they were sold out, or everyone was playing at places that cost way too much, like the Boston Garden. So it goes.

I've never heard Travis before...anyone know what they're like?

Travis?..it's funny, I know a dude who does a podcast who digs them, and Ours sometimes gets that comparison. But meh, I don't think I could stand 5mins of them personally.

Abbey Road
Bridge Over Troubled Water
Fair to Midland
dredg + From Monument to Masses and Torche
Paper Route + Brooke Waggoner

upcoming:
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum (almost no chance given I'm sick right now and I can't really get into them)
Mastodon (doubtful)
The Faceless (maybe)
Gojira (doubtful)
Cloud Cult (maybe)
Between Two Skies
Russian Circles
Bloc Party
Vast (doubtful)
Protest the Hero
Gogol Bordello (maybe)
St.Vincent
The Decemberists (questionable)
King's X (uncertain if a show will even happen)
The Dear Hunter
Andre Matos + Fates Warning + Orphaned Land @ ProgPowerUSA
Apes and Androids (when the stars allign i.e..they have a show scheduled..and I can afford a trip to NYC)

Robyn Hitchcock, Murder By Death, Mogwai, Neko Case and Cursive if I was given a free ticket I might consider going.

Let's just put it this way...I listened to the samples of them on the House of Blues' website, and I would much rather hear them than, let's say, Lady Ga-Ga or Katy Perry. :P

I wanted to see Live, but they were sold out...every time Live has played in my area, I've never been able to go. :-\

Hoping to catch Porcupine Tree in Sept in Chicago....will go late though....King's X is opening, and after giving them three tries live, I can live without another experience.....I **love** Ty Tabor's voice, but just can't seem to get into D. Pinnicks.....

Was hoping to see Jeff Beck with the unworldly Vinnie Coliuta and the amazing young Tal Wilkenfeld....but tickets sold out before I could get them.....hope to get some last minute tickets for that!

Will go see DT when they come with their own show....ProgNation is really cool but for my $$$ I'd rather see more DT.  So guess that won't happen until early 2010.....

I couldn't get into Doug Pinnick for a while either, especially because the first time I heard him was on Falling Into Infinity, and that was just...weird. I liked him a little better on King's X's albums. However, when I saw King's X opening for Extreme last summer, I thought Pinnick was INCREDIBLE--both with his vocals and bass-playing. Huh. ::shrug::

I love Allan Holdsworth!! Hes smooth, fusion playing...

I know him from the band called Planet X, a fusion band which contains Derek Sherinian, Virgil Donati and recently original guitarist Tony MacAlpine is back after many years break. On one CD after Tony's department, called "Quantum", they hired two of the best guitar players out there. Brett Garsed and Allan Holdsworth.

But Allan could only play on two songs, "Desert Girl" and "The Thinking Stone". Check it out!

About shows...Im seeing Dream Theater live for the first time! In Sweden, Stockholm, Hovet.

Hey Erik.....

 8)  Planet X is a great band, especially with Tony MacAlpine back in it......I have been a fan of theirs from the beginning.....seen them live and really enjoyed it, but Tony was not in the band then when we saw them.....I must admit I prefer their first two albums to Quantum, although Allan Holdsworth certainly contributed a lot to the songs he played.  If you have not heard either of the first two albums, check 'em out.  I love watching/hearing Allan play, so it is always a treat to see him live......check out some of his older stuff as well - he has an extensive back catalog......

Shows.....I just got tickets to see Porcupine Tree with Kings X in September ( 8)!!)  and am waiting for US dates for DT.....I have seen DT many, many times, but it is always exciting and I look forward to each show.  I am excited for you, seeing your first show!  I know you will enjoy it!

So cool to meet another fan of Planet X.

I got all of their albums, including the "Live from Oz". They are a great, different band, with their special compositions and melodies. And Virgil is one of my biggest inspirations in drumming and my dicipline in practise and hes so talented to write music.
"Quantum" was almost completely written by Virgil himself, and I like that album very much. Dont like the mixing at all though...but the playing and music is very good.

Seen them live? Thats pretty rare, as they dont tour much around it seems...I live in Sweden and wanna see them this year. Do you know the closest place to see them?

Title: Re: What Concerts Do You Plan to See?

HI Erik.......yea Planet X doesn't tour much.....it was 2001, I think, when I saw them.....TJ Helmrich and Rufus Philpot were with them when they played here.  I live near an awesome store called The Drum Pad.....(since you are a drummer, you would LOVE it!).....they bring in artists that don't always tour other places, and one year it was Planet X.  Virgil Donati did some drum clinics for the store (my son, who is now a professional drummer,  took a master class with him) and then Planet X played one of the nights Virgil was in town.  It was an incredible show!!

I don't have a clue where you could see them live, but you could check out their web site and join the forum....Derek participates in the forum and you could just ask him when they plan to tour next.....they have a myspace at http://www.myspace.com/planetxsite and their web site is http://www.myspace.com/planetxsite

Quantum is a good album, I just prefer Moonbabies and Universe.....and LIve from Oz......it's all good.

Thats so awesome! I wanna be a pro drummer aswell, my dream is to make a living out of playing drums and get as good as I can possible be. So Virgil gives masterclasses? I thought he didnt had time for students...check the interviews hes a very busy man! How did your song get in touch with Virgil? I know he gives internet-classes on hes web site, by uploading homemade videos explaining and giving tips in certain areas.

Strange that Tony wasnt with Planet X in 2001. The only time Ive seen Virgil was in like 2004.2005 when he was in Sweden on a clinic-tour (in a close city we got one of the biggest drumstores in Scandinavia) but back then I had no clue who he was. But he blowed me away with hes extremely fast movement and extremely progressive, but still groovie playing!
Plus he also made me think he is pretty strange. He has a funny Australian accent plus he lisps alot so its hard to hear what he says. He explained how he didnt wanted a family or girlfreind (or even freinds!) in order to get more practise time for drums. He practise every day when he isnt touring, and he lives for music. The only non-music thing he foten does is exercising and working out to stay fit and to focus the strenght to get stronger when playing drums. And he even lives on a diet to get better concentration skill!

Hes kinda a geek huh? But an inspiration for me.

HI Erik......I was mistaken....we saw Planet X in 2005, not 2001.....so I can see why you were confused about Tony......sorry I caused that confusion.

As I said in an earlier post, we live near The Drum Pad.  We live outside the 3rd largest city in the USA, Chicago.....so we get a lot of big name musicians travel though here.  Virgil did a clinic for The Drum Pad, and offered a master class through them.  My son used to take lessons at The Drum Pad, so he heard about it then.  I wouldn't know how to get ahold of Virgil or if he gives lessons otherwise.  We were just in the right place at the right time.

As to Virgil's personaltiy....I wouldn't presume to know him at all......he is very dedicated - that is quite obvious in his playing.  The two times I have talked with him, I didn't ask about his personal life.  He seems a rather private individual and I respect that.  But he is an amazing technical drummer and so fast!  I am attaching some pics from the night we saw Planet X in 2005 .....with his red eyes he looks like he is from another world!........and one from the master class.

Thats for viewing the pics Subu!! Loved them. And yeah Virgil is not like a weird odd person, just very dedicated and he never talsk about hes personal life much. Some dude on youtube said he once during a clinic asked Virgil how old he was and Virgil said back "Hahaha we are here to talk about drums not me!". Or another one that wondered if Virgil was gay, as hes never really got a relationship, and Virgil refused to answer. Better not ask about hes personal life...maybe there is non? ;D just drumming...and drumming....

In the pic at the bottom-whats the story behind that one? Is he warming up or showing a few technics on a pad?

For the clinic, everyone was given a set up of pads and pedals....it was simply a situation where Virgil needed to be able to both hear what the students were doing and the students needed to be able to hear Virgil!  So everyone learned the techniques and practiced on the pads instead of real drums.  Once the class was over, students could take what they learned and apply it on their own drumkits.  Virgil had tons of handouts with exericses for the students - they took those home and were able to practice what they learned in the master class.

The personal stuff....people really ought to think before they badger people for personal information.....I think it is very rude to ask the kinds of personal questions that were asked during the clinic you attended......Virgil had every right to refuse to answer, and he was absolutely correct in stating that he was there to talk about drums!  These guys are doing their job.....they are not there to make friends with everyone they come in contact with.....there should be respect for them as professionals to keep the questions focused on the purpose......Just my opinion...... ;)

Absolutely correct! But I can understand that people are also intrested in the man behind the drumkit and all skills.
They wanna know how he thinks, how hes life looks and how he are as a person as hes very dedicated. That just makes him intressting, for me too. I would never ask anything like that, and I understand that he got a bit pissed.

Man I would love to get exercises from Virgil, as long as they arent too complecated. But that was basicly warm ups and technic-developing things huh? Some of hes independence (playing several rytms at the same time) are extremely hard to do Im afraid a masterclass with Virgil would not be worth much unless youre very very skilled.
But what did he teached?

Sorry for being so nerdy...but I might learn something here!

HI Erik.....

I doubt he was "pissed".....just professional and guarding his privacy.  I am sure, as a public figure, he is very accustomed to fielding these personal questions.

The things he taught were  complex.  The whole point in a Master Class is to learn advanced technique.  No warms ups in that clinic!  It was a class intended for more advanced drummers.  I am not certain independence (or as my son's teacher calls it, interdependence) could be taught in a clinic setting.  Those that took the clinic already had control and ability to play utilizing independence.   Virgil teaches in a way that breaks the complex material into more easily digestable parts, parts that can be practiced, then put together to create very complex rhythmic juxtipositions.  I sat in on about half of the class, just listening to what and how he was teaching....he is an excellent teacher - very able to convey info to students in a meaningful manner.  I am not a drummer, but I certainly leanred a lot about drumming that afternoon!

There is nothing wrong with wanting to learn....if that makes you "nerdy" then be very thankful that you are!!  Keep on practicing and pushing yourself to improve and you will be able to play stuff like Virgil as well.....life is a journey of learning - you never know it all and so much of the joy of living is in discovering something new each day!

Thanks Subu youre very kind for sharing info.
And yes im actually happy being so nerdy ;). I practise hard every day, between 2-4 hours of drumming, playing to music, rudiments, technic, stamina....alot of "boring" stuff!

Yes my goal is to be as good as I can be and its not an easy journey. Not only drumming, but your mind. You got to believe in yourself, choosing a different way through life. Many of my freinds choose to educate themselves with things thats rewarding when earning money. I follow my dream.

While my freinds are out having a good time Im sitting home in my room practising...which feels sad sometimes, but rewarding in the end. The happy energy you get from spending time doing other "teen"-things is nothing compared to the energy I get from improving my drumming!!

I saw a concert there, too!! Saw Extreme in 1992.

Speaking of Extreme, my sister & I are going to Baltimore for the M3 Festival, mainly to see Extreme. We had to miss them when they came through Fla, last summer. They're still one of my favorite bands, even after they had broken up, and who's to say that they won't make to down to Fla. again for a while.

I'm also seeing U2 in October in Tampa.

I finally got to meet most of the band members, except for Paul Geary (well, manager) and the bassist...Gary Cherone is such a frickin' teddy bear. :P I love that guy.

Oh man, Gary is the ABSOLUTE BEST!! Back when they were recording 3 Sides in Ft. Lauderdale, we would go down to the studio often just to meet them. Sometimes I'd go by myself, sometimes my sister went with me, sometimes my friend, Debi would go with me(she was also a fan, and I happen to meet her at an Extreme show). Yes, a teddy bear he is, I love that he's so affectionate. While all the females were drawn towards Nuno, my sister & I would talk to Gary, and we could talk to him ALL DAY if he let us!!

Oh my dog... :o did you get to hear them actually recording? Becaused that would be WICKED SWEET. "III Sides To Every Story" is my favorite album by them.

I'd still like to meet Paul Geary, though, just because I'm a music business geek...he is indirectly the reason that I got to meet the other band members last summer. His sister is a customer at the bank where I work, and she asked him to give me backstage passes when she found out I was going to see the show. I love them both forever!

You could hear some outside but not enough to figure out a song. Understandably none of us were allowed in the studio. I knew that so I didn't bother asking, but you wouldn't believe the people there who just didn't get it!!

That's so cool that you were able to get passes through Paul's sister!! I always remember Paul as being really, really nice every time we talked to him. I haven't checked up on him lately but last I heard he was Godsmack's manager. That was a few years ago though.

Title: Re: What Concerts Do You Plan to See?

Yes, he's still Godsmack's manager, and he was also managed New Kids On the Block as well, last I heard. His management company is doing extremely well. :) That's why I wished I could have met him...I wanted to talk about how he transitioned from being just a drummer to the band manager, to a successful management company owner.

You never know when they might let you into the studio, though...on some of my school's spring break trips to Nashville, all 120 of us have been allowed to literally sit in the studio and in the mixing room while major artists record demos. I mean, yes, they're demos, but they're VINCE GILL's demos. :P I suppose it all depends what kinds of connections you have. The Berklee teachers who coordinated the trip know the studio owners personally, I think.

My husband and I saw Stryper last night here in Toronto.  Suffice it to say that this venue was too small for the power that they exude when they play.  They were fantastic, and I would go see them again!  Michael Sweet's voice is still something to behold, and this band is so ultra tight - 25 yrs together and they totally rocked the house last night.

Very happy we saw them, but hoping the next time they come, it's on a Fri / Sat night....today was rough after a late night....

one of the funnest things ever... Kiss is going to be in Portland Nov 17th. I mentioned something to her about the cheap tickets being $20, and she said that she would like to go. about 20 min ago she called me and said that few of her co-workers/friends said they would go too..

SO, there might be a chance I will be going to a Kiss concert  :D

Yeah, Sneider might be dragging me to that one...I've never seen a Kiss concert, so he thinks I'm a "virgin." Kiss are all right; I've never been a huge fan of their songwriting, but I'm sure the show is quite another experience. Plus, Buckcherry is opening. I've heard they're good.

The Meet and Greets are $1000  :o :o

i could see DT three times for that price :P (still has to see them once :D)

as for Buckcherry... i actually don't like them but meh for $20 i'd be willing to put up with it

and considering that Kiss is the ONLY good concert happening in Oregon and i am able to go to...  and the tickets are cheap so that is a plus

A KISS show is always great to see !! Before I got myself into DT I've been a huge KISS fan from age 11 until 25. Than I saw DT on MTV  :D
I've seen them 4 times and my interest in them got to a very low level after their come back in make up (I rather see them without  ;)) which actually started after Eric Carr died back in 1991.
Paul Stanley still has a special place in my heart though (I love his solo albums) and I guess he always will  ;)
Saw them last year at Arrow Rock Festival and it sure was fun, singing along all their songs  8)

Just realized that the Kiss show in Nashville is TONIGHT...I guess we're not going after all. :P We don't have tickets. Oh well...maybe next time...

It doesn't surprise me that the meet and greet passes are wicked expensive. This is Gene Simmons we're talking about. I might not know the band too well, but I've heard him talking enough times to know how full of himself he is and how much he worships his own Kiss enterprise. ::)

the funny thing is... I don't really like hearing Live stuff of Kiss... BUT once my mom was saying she would like to go, and asked a bunch of coworkers (all elementary school teachers  :D ) it looks like we might be going. Hey I'll take concerts when i can get them....

Thanks to my awesome dad, Sneider and I are going to see John Fogerty at the Ryman Auditorium on Sunday! I've been a Creedence fan since I was a kid, and I've never seen then live. This is probably as close as I'll ever get, but still wicked cool, since Fogerty is the brains behind it all.

I was worried that because Sneider and I are broke, we wouldn't be able to do anything special for our anniversary on Friday, but with the concert on Sunday, I guess that kinda makes up for it. :) [Edit: I'm dumb. I just checked the tickets--they're for NEXT Sunday. ::) ]

OMG!!!!  We had an AMAZING TIME last night!  I fluked off FRONT ROW CENTRE tickets to this concert!

What an experience, having Chris Caffrey AND Alex Skolnich playing right in front of you!!!  I tell you people, I just about PEED MYSELF in public!

The first half they started with the first track off of Nightcastle called "Night Enchanted"....and they did a couple of songs before they broke into the Lost Christmas Eve Story.  Yes, I friggin cried about a quarter of the time.  Christmas is Sarajevo was AMAZING as always.

The second half, they did tracks off the new CD, as well as back tracking to the other Christmas CD's.  Highlights for me:
- Wizards of Winter
- Carmina Burana - O Fortuna
- Appalachian Sleigh Ride
- Requiem
- Hall of The Mountain King
- Toccata

Anna Pheobe whom is the violinist on tour with them is AWESOME, and her electric, pink, rhinestone studded 6 STRING VIOLIN was a sight to behold.  She ROCKS on her baby!!!!

Chris Caffrey ALWAYS the crowd rowser!   He would come down and motion for the crowd to stand up and I was like "Baby, you don't have to ask ME twice!"   At the end, Glenn caught a couple of guitar picks from the boys, and Jeff Plate came down and gave sticks to some of the little kids in the crowd which made my heart totally melt!  So sweet of him to do....

We had a WONDERFUL time, and I think NOTHING is like seeing a show up that close.  I enjoyed every moment, because I don't think that will ever happen again.

NOW, Mama is feelin' Christmas-y!!!!

A few days ago I saw the German band Sylvan. I totally recommend it to you! Visit www.sylvan.de

On Friday I'm gonna see Paradise Lost and Samael, who will be playing in Cottbus, the German town where I live. I'm not a fan of these bands, but I want to listen to them live, especially Paradise Lost, which appeals more to me than Samael.

Hello friends,

Coming back from Paradise Lost and Samael's concert. Musically, I liked Paradise Lost better, but on stage presence, I prefered Samael. In general it was a good concert and helped release some energy hehehe. Now on December 3rd one of my biggest dreams will come true: Paul McCartney!!!

By the way, today I was wearing my Dream Theater t-shirt from this tour at the PL's concert and some guy came to me and told me he was there too. It's so cool how our bands bring us together!

Rock on friends!

Yesterday I was at Blaze Bayley show. It was awesome! :o  :o
100% of Rocking from the band and from the audience. Blaze is the great frontman and vocalist. Too bad that there were only about 200-300 people there. Blaze deserves more. From the other side there were no indifferent people there, only those, who really love Blaze. So the atmosphere was great - unity of band and audience.

Yeah, Ash, you're right, it was good concert :) But without show part - just four static musicians (they just rarely walk on stage) and dancing Geoff Tate, without any decorations.

Here's some pics.

I was surprised that Geoff is bald now.. He looks very similar like Ralf Scheepers  :D
The sound wasn't very nice, but B1 club are famous with his terrible sound, so even what we have are very good for this place.
Geoff is a really frontman - he didn't stop in almost hole concert. And he sang very good too. My opinion about him become much higher after this show. I also caught Eddie Jackson's pick :) There were only about 1000 people there (in club for 3500), and Queensryche rarely visit Europe, so I'm afraid they won't come again...

And last - it was my first concert, which I visit as a journalist  :D

I wasn't going to go, but now I think I will go to see DT open for Maiden this Thursday here in NE Ohio.  I saw the headliner show in Columbus last Friday, which was killer.  DT's set will be over before you know it, but they are worth it.

Yeah, but when you are used to seeing them headline, and going and hearing a hour and a half to two hour show, that set seems short!   :D :D :D  Hell, I was screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!  NOT YEEEEEEEETTTTTTT!!!!!!"  as they were leaving the stage last week.   ;D  That's cuckoo me, though.  LOL!!!

@MuumiPeikko: is that the same Marco Hietala from Nightwish playing for Tarot? ???

Sneider, my bandmates and I might be going to see the Halloween show with Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium this fall. Gotta get tickets first, though. I've never seen an Alice Cooper show, but I bet it will be awesome. :)

Oh, and I'm hoping I'll be able to afford tickets to the Jonas Brothers/Demi Lovato show. I don't care about the Jonas Brothers, but I want to see Demi live at least once.

Yep :)
Tarot was his main band, before he join Nightwish. It was formed in 1985. Btw, guitar player is Marco's brother - Zachary Hietala. :)

Oh, yeah! He's main party-animal of the band, and totally nuts. ;D I also like him, 'cause he so charismatic and talented. With him Nightwish finally get a real frontman. He gave the second wind to Tuomas creativity.

Yeah, Marco started getting really good (at least I think) on "Once." I wasn't crazy about his version of "Phantom of the Opera," but when they did "I Wish I Had An Angel," he effing blew me away. He's the perfect contrast to the operatic-female-thing.

I will see

Epica - I want to get a picture with Simone. Their latest album has been kicking my ass all year. Nic, I think if you like Nightwish, you would like this. There's some growling here and there but I tolerate it..LOL
Rush - Time Machine tour
Katatonia - Night is the new day tour - My best discovery last year and album of the year 2009 for me.
Dredg - Probably - They are playing like 3rd on the bill so I don't know if it's going to be worth it.

Talking about what concerts will I want to see, I guess that will depends when till the bands that I like come to a place around me. Well I guess I would have a few bands in mind. I would love to see Sum41, Daft Punk, Bullets for my Valentine, Green Day, Yellow Card, and so much more that I couldn’t be able to list over everything. But here are the ones that I would love to go.

Well, the Silk Road concert was incredible. For anyone unfamiliar with this ensemble, it is a group organized by Yo-Yo Ma consisting of traditional string quartet instruments, string bass, and all types of Middle Eastern/Asian percussion and (for lack of a better term) guitars. There was even a Spanish-style bagpipe. I'd never heard anything like it before. If they ever come to your town, absolutely go and check it out!

This weekend, we are going to see what Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Van Canto yesterday. I couldn't even imagine, how cool a Capella metal can be alive! Yeah, it's a Capella power metal band - just 5 singers and drummer. And you know what? It's tonnes of fun! For both - audience and the band. It's really easy to sing with them - even if you don't know lyrics ;) The lead vocalist, Sly is very active. He runs and jumps almost as much as Bruce Dickinson. And he hell of singing at the same time!

Stef and Ike - "guitar" and "bass" vocalists. And Tarja Turu, sorry, Inga Scharf - female lead vocalist.

May and June will be awesome for me. May favorite artists ever in just a matter of days:

29 May - Rush (Frankfurt) <-- First time I'll see them!!!
3 June - Iron Maiden (Berlin) <-- Third time I'll see them
16 June - Roger Waters (Berlin) <-- Second time I'll see him, but this time is "The Wall", my favorite album of all time!

There's some guilty pleasure I might check in March, a German band that was big in the 80s: Alphaville :)

Also in March I'm gonna see a band I'm sure none of you here knows. They are Czech and are called Eternal Seekers. It's not prog or metal or rock, it's more like jazzy. I totally recommend them and I'm friends with the singer, who is very famous in Czech Republic :D

I'm seeing them in the summer, too. Not my first time though

Which one you're going to see?
What makes me surprise - almost all UK dates are sold out. In Moscow you could bought tickets few hours before the gig. At least half of sitting places were empty. That's a shame  :( 'cause our local promoter is too greedy - ticket were very expensive. I pay 100 euro for my fan zone ticket, sitting prices start at 50 euro for places so far from the stage.

I'm seeing them in the summer, too. Not my first time though
Me too in St. Petersburg!

IM must do better shows for your areas then for the US... when I saw them and DT in Auburn Washington in June, it was flat and boring, and I ended up leaving early.

:(

I enjoy IM but that show was disappointing to me.

No kidding! The guy gets a ridiculous aerobic workout running all over the stage! I couldn't believe it when I saw him this summer :o

I will be seeing Mike Portnoy with Neal Morse on 5/25!  Glad they added this show.  Not a big fan of Testimony, but I would pay to watch Portnoy play anything (of course, I would prefer to see him playing with DT!!!!)
Other shows on the horizon:  Elton John on 4/12 and Avenged Sevenfold on 5/14.

Hey guys,

I went to see Alphaville on Thursday (yes, I like my synth-pop once in a while, I'm a kid from the 80s!). In two weeks I'll see IAMX, which is also a little electronic (it's not my kind of music, but I like them) and then Tony Levin!

And right now I'm making plans with a friend to go to Loreley and see DT and Anathema :D

This 2011 looks really good in the concert department!

But yeah, if I were a great fan of Judas Priest, Motorhead and Slipknot, I'd probably die of jealosy

I've already seen Maiden this year... And it will happen again in St. Petersburg. :P After one-day break I'll see Dream Theater twice - in Moscow and Kiev in two days in a row. Gonna be crazy

Yeah, the Istanbul leg of sonisphere. It's going to be crazy. Line ups are Iron Maiden and Muse this year. But I'm not fan of Muse, so...

Mötorhead and Megadeth are part of Rock'n Coke though. Probably, Dream Theater is going to come here but the date is unknown for now.

Plus, I wanna see Bon Jovi but it's about money. If I find some I'll get the ticket for sure.

Hello to everyone btw! This is my first post, I've followed the forum for a while now, but haven't got round to making my mark up untill now! :)

This year I have already seen manowar last month, and Pain of salvation at the end of last year. Im seeing Rush twice in May, DT once, then high voltage for both days (so DT again :D) Iron maiden twice at the o2 and cardiff, and then hopefully sonisphere too! So really good year thus far :) hoping to make some more additions as well!

I last saw DT at prog nation 09, and they were brilliant (as always) and James sounded absolutely top notch, so I cant wait to hear him again this year and with the new drummer!

Hey Furby42! Welcome to the Forum. In which country do you live? So many awesome concerts!

I've yet to see Pain of Salvation. I saw Daniel Gindelow with Transatlantic last year in Cologne, though and that's the closest I've been, but that's one of those bands I'd really like to see!

I also saw Dream Theater at ProgNation 09 and agree with you about James :) Can't wait to hear the new stuff!

Argh! Okay, so it turns out I'm not the one who needs convincing - it's my husband. And I wouldn't got to a rock show without him just because it's not as much fun. :/ I know he thinks Motley Crue is done to death, but man...it's not fair.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!! Im from England!

Yeah Pain of salvation was amazing, one of my fav bands along with DT, Rush and Iron Maiden. It sucked that the US tour got cancelled! Cuz of admin as well, with the record company going bust, not even a good reason!

I saw Gildenlow with Transatlantic too!! :) at shepherds bush where the dvd was filmed, you can see me in some of the crowd shots! :D I was interviewed for the DVD as well but mine didnt make it into the release, but hey! :P

Yeah, he sung lie and the mirror perfectly with that real nice raspy tone he used for awake, so im really excited to hear his offering for the new album as well!

Yeah busy (and costly) year, but its all worth it for the music!

So last Saturday I saw Tony Levin with Stickmen in a German town called Reichenbach. This place is amazing. It's a very small town in the middle of nowhere in Germany but they have this great bar where they always present progressive rock artists. The place is small so the atmosphere is quite intimate.

As for the concert, it was AWESOME!!! Every kilometer I travelled with the train and every Euro I paid for travelling and accommodation was totally worth it! If you guys haven't seen Tony Levin live, don't miss a chance to do so! Specially with Stick Men! They played some King Crimson pieces as well as their own material and I the music was simply unbelievable.

Oh and he signed my Liquid Tension Experiment booklet, so now I have both Jordan's and his signature. Only Petrucci and Portnoy left  ;D

Saw Royal Hunt yesterday.

Two their previous visits everything brakes in the last moment, so I miss their shows in 2007 and 2008. From the third take I finally did it! It was definitely one of the best concerts I ever seen. DC Cooper is just great! He sang all the songs perfectly, he doesn't performs, he lives on stage. All other musicians, are great as always. New guitar player rocks, his solo in Long Way Home is truly the best I ever heard in this song.

He plays Genesis songs from all eras, songs from Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel and Mike and the Mechanics, and of course, his own music, which is quite good. I recommend you check him out!

Neal Morse w/Mike Portnoy on 5/25 in Denver
Karnivool in Cairns, Australia on 7/2
Animals as Leaders in my home town of Colorado Springs on 7/13 (the day after I get back from New Zealand & Australia...should be interesting)
Zappa Plays Zappa and Return to Forever on 8/27 in Denver

Of course, Dream Theater is on the horizon and I will see at least two shows on that tour.  I'll also check out Bullet for my Valentine & Avenged Sevenfold on the Uproar Tour and I'm hoping for Opeth...but it doesn't look very likely that they will make it to Colorado  :-[

Scorprions (with Sabaton as support) and Pain next week, within two days in row  :)

It was a good week for concert announcements. There are pretty much gigs this year I'd like to see.

Whitesnake and System of a Down in June
Iron Maiden and Dream Theater (twice!) in July
Twisted Sister in August
Helloween+Stratovarius in September
Doro and Amorphis in October
In Extremo, Alice Cooper and Iced Earth in November
Within Temptation and Yes in December

Gosh, I wonder how many of them I will actually see  ;D

Hello there!

I had an AMAZING time the last few days:

28.5.11: Iron Maiden in Frankfurt! I wasn't planning it, but being in town I decided to try finding some resold tickets... and had luck! I ended up standing very near the stage :D

29.5.11: RUSH in Frankfurt! I'm still speechless!!! What an amazing show!!! It was a dream come true for me to see these guys and I hope it won't be the only time!

3.6.11: Iron Maiden in Berlin! This is the show I originally planned to attend and so I did :D Awesome again! These guys keep rocking!

Next week I'll see Roger Waters in Berlin. I love Pink Floyd and The Wall in particular, so it will be great for me. And I just learned that Diana is attending too :D So we'll share our impressions here, I guess.

Saw Dio Disciples yesterday. It was a blast! I've never imagine cover band could be such cool. It's truly living magic of Ronnie's music. Tim Owens (he sang drive parts) just great. He sang as close to as original vocal lines as possible. Same as second vocalist Toby Jepson, who sang more fast and melodic stuff. Other musicians, except bassist James LoMenzo, played in original Dio band - Craig Goldy, Scott Warren and Simon Wright. It was their first show as Dio Disciples.
I have mixed feeling, from the one point, it was true passion and magic in their playing, which always lifts you up. From another, it was very emotional for band and for audience. Craig Goldy cried on Catch the Rainbow. I was near to that several times. Especially, before the encore, when Tim said "Ronnie, obviously, was a friend of us. Most of the guys played in his band. But seen your reaction to his music, I can say -- Ronnie was a friend of each other of you."

We saw Elton John last Saturday. The concert was fantastic, beautiful, touching ...

(I like Elton John, but the Dream Theater Version of "Love Lies Bleeding" is a little better (due to the incredible vocal performance of James LaBrie) in my opinion, and I love the Dream Theater Version of "Funeral For A Friend", really awesome version).

And I saw Roger Waters... the show was f... AMAZING!!! The best concert I've ever attended! Perfect logistic to organize so many things happening on stage in perfect coordination with the music. Extremely professional. Besides, The Wall is my favorite rock album ever, so it was a really special and memorable evening for me.

Coming up next:

07.07.11: Anathema in Aschaffenburg
09.07.11: Night of the Prog in Loreley with Dream Theater and Anathema  ;D (among others)
09.08.11: Judas Priest in Berlin

Well, I back to normal after such crazy week, enough to share some thoughts  :)

First I'd like to tell about the beginning of the madness - Iron Maiden show in St. Petersburg. Until the intro for the show it still sounds unbelievable - seen them for the third time - something I can't ever dream about just few years ago. And now, we not only saw Iron Maiden gig for the third time, but met metal gods themselves.
It was great to see, how can love to music connect people. In St. Petersburg we saw people from all the world, who come there just to see Iron Maiden. We met in pub before gig, and though we saw each other for the first time, there was a feeling of true metal brotherhood. Really great feeling.
The show itself was blasting. Though that time we have sitting places, instead of first row, like in Moscow, I liked this one even more. The set list was almost the same, they've just change order of the songs in it. Main change was about scenery - they add some new banners, figures for Number of the Beast and there was a BIG Eddie. Though sound wasn't pretty good, I can hear the main instrument of IM - I mean Steve's bass of course  ;) better than ever.

Almost 2 hours of the show flew by way too fast. But there was no time to regret about it - we had to went to the railway station right after the show, to came back to Moscow on time for the next stop - Dream Theater in Moscow! About this event I'll write in special topic  ;)

Saw Twisted Sister yesterday.
It was a blast! So high energetic, loud, powerful and rocking performance. They're truly deserve their "Legend" status. Especially Dee Snider. Gosh, I wish I will be such energetic at his age! His voice is the same as in 80s, and he is a natural born frontman. He caught audience attention from the first song and hold it till the end of the show. And when on "Burn in Hell" he was lighted from bottom with red light, while the rest of the club was in darkness - he looked really demonic!
Set list was "best of", so they played all my TS-faves   :D I was afraid, that after such strong emotions of  Dream Theater shows, that gig wouldn't touch me, and I will just sceptically look to stage. But instead of it I saw one of the best concerts of the year, isn't that great?

Ok so fuck it...I just ordered the DT Meet and Greet package for the Boston show on October 10th. I have never bought the meet and greet package, I have always settled for the next one down. And I have to go and drive alone to the concert(about 2 hours or so) coz none of my friends ever have any money...BUT that a whole different story! FINALLY I will meet DT for real, and not just have the slap my hand from the stage. Years and years ago I used to buy the most expensive tix to get the front row package but that was before they did the meet and greet and the prices DOUBLED.

Anyone dealt of the 'I LOVE ALL ACCESS' company before?? They did not give me any info on my seat number, where I am sitting etc...NOTHING. Really weird to me. Especially for just dropping $275.00

And when did the tix go on sale? I only found out about it yesterday...I hope they haven't been on sale for long!

Well, last night in Berlin I saw Judas Priest for the first time. It was great! It's amazing how well can Rob Halford sing after all these years! Even though the band lost their founding guitar player K.K. Downing, his substitute is a great player and interacts perfectly with the band. I'm surprised though that, unlike with Iron Maiden, the venue wasn't full. Actually, there was a lot of space on the mosh and many empty seats. The higher blocks of seats were even closed. Anyway, they announced this would be their last tour, but apparently that was a publicity strategy and they will go on. Go see them when you have a chance!

I have two upcoming concerts:

Opeth with Pain of Salvation as support on the 8th of December and

Dream Theater on the 25th of January

I have only seen Opeth once before, on the Progressive nation tour. I am totally in love with Heritage and am looking very much forward to this.

Pain of Salvation has been a favorite of mine for a long time. I have seen them a couple of times before. As support for Dream Theater and when they set up BE a year before the album was released. The BE concert was one of my favorite concerts ever..... don't think they will be as interesting now. Will be sad to see Fredrik Hallgren for the last time as this is his last tour with the band.

Dream Theater is probably the band I have seen more than any. The first time was on the Images and Words tour. With their fantastic new CD I am more eager than on the last couple of tours.....

Opeth and Pain of Salvation are really amazing bands, I appreciate theirmusic very much, but my absolute favorite band is Dream Theater. Dream Theater and PoS - what a wonderful year!! :)

My next shows are:
11/15  Scale the Summit
12/4  Scale the Summit (on a different tour with other bands)
12/10  Dead Letter Circus & Fair to Midland

I'm going to see the Blue Man Group tonight, but that doesn't count as a concert but it should be a blast.

Though November was one of the busiest times in my life, I found time for Iced Earth show.

It was their very first show in Russia, so they even play 2 more songs than usual. And one of them is my fave from the new album - Days of Rage. New vocalist is great! He can sing both Barlow and Ripper part perfectly. Jon Schaffer rocked hard through the whole gig. Finally I heard and saw his playing live!  :D
Also, it was the first time ever, when I bought meet-n-greet ticket. There were only 4 people. Good side - we had enough time to chat with Freddie and Jon.  ;)

I'm not me without concert pics, right?  ;D

We considered two options: Berlin + Hannover or Berlin + Paris and have chosen the second option. My son has school vacation, in the period January 30th to February 5th, and I think it would be interesting for him to see his favorite band (Dream Theater) in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But I'm also really looking forward to the concert in Berlin. Can't wait :). See you there.

1 Dream Theater - Feb 9th, Manchester!

I have been very lucky to have been sent on an official trip to the UK when DT are on tour! I otherwise might never have a chance in my life to watch them live - India is not on the DT tour radar yet I guess. My managers here at work have been gracious enough to grant me a off day - one of 'em is coming along too ! Just done booking the tickets !

2 Thinking of 'The Australian Pink Floyd Show' - Mar 1st, Sheffield (the venue is just a two minute walk from the apartment I live) Has anyone here watched them before?

3. Jo Bonamassa - 24th March - gotta book a off day at work!

The beginning of music season 2012 was really huge. Since February, 4 I had one gig per week.

February, 4 - Powerwolf
February, 11 - Rammstein
February, 18 - Yngwie Malmsteen
February, 26 - Paul DiAnno & Blaze Bayley
March, 2 - Moonspell

Moonspell was totally new gig impression for my. I was like hypnotized by Fernando. I've been almost paralyzed, afraid to miss a single note, a single movement. Most of the time, I just can't look to anybody else. Like he can really do magic. His vocal, both clear and growl can take you deep into your consciousness, where only your personal images of music come alive, waken up by the Roberto's guitar.

I attended Peter Gabriel's show with the orchestra in 2010 and it was good, but I'd prefer to hear him with his band, to be honest.

My upcoming concerts:

Ray Wilson & Stiltskin - Berlin, March 15th
Ray Wilson & Genesis Klassik - Dresden, March 16th

And I'm considering to attend Kyo's festival in Nuremberg on April 13th, with his band Relocator, plus Effloresce, Dreamscape and Counter-World Experience. It'll depend on the money.

And if everything works out fine I'll celebrate my birthday with Anathema in Krakow on April 21st  ;D (my birthday is on April 20th).

5/9  - Peter Gabriel: New Blood Orchestra in Berlin
5/31 – Wanda Thot in Berlin  – I like her guitar-playing abilities and her voice is just amazing, she sounds like an absolute angel ...
In July G3 – Steve Morse, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai in Offenbach (Germany) or maybe the gods (Dream Theater), probably again in Boston .. :) it would be great ...

Next concert will be on Saturday, when I'll see Anathema (for the 5th time!) in Krakow  ;D

Saw Queen + Adam Lambert. Twice. I don't have the right words to describe how cool it was. I had goosebumps at both shows almost all the time. Lambert is great singer. He not only sang this songs pretty perfectly, he really feels them.

some people don't give Lambert the chance, but yeah he is actually a good singer. When he started his Glam Nation tour he said in an interview he got the idea for his tour's name from DT's Prog Nation tour title. He thinks out side the box.

and his damn music is catchy...

First I will be going on a summer holiday, but after that I will attend some concerts.

First : Lady GaGa - bought tickets for me, my girlfriend and her daughter. It will be daughter's first big concert, so I hope Lady GaGa gives a good performance and show.

Second : Trijntje Oosterhuis - dutch jazz/pop singer with a beautiful voice (and appearance). Going there with my girlfriend. The venue is a small club, only 300 people can fit in so I hope her performance will be really intimate.

Third : Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan, Derke Sherinian & Tony MacAlpine - just some hours of music extravaganza :) - will be enjoying this with 2 friends of mine

Fourth : Lionel Richie, going together with my girlfriend again as she likes that kind of music and wants to see him live. I have a broad range of musical interest and I like his voice, just hoping he will sing a lot of older songs (no dancing on the ceiling).

Probably Red Hot Chili Peppers and G3 in the rest of the summer.
Gotthard+Unisonic in Moscow and St. Petersburg
Portnoy and Co. in Moscow and St. Petersburg, probably in Kiev.

Finally have some concerts lined up:

April 1 - Adrenaline Mob (in my home town of Colorado Springs!!!)
May 6 - Steven Wilson
May 20 - Opeth (with VIP Meet & Greet!!!)
May 21 - Opeth (so excited they are doing two shows in Colorado!)

Trying to work out Stone Sour & Volbeat shows, but they are both in February and I'm a tax accountant so it's not very good timing for me.  I'd find a way to do it for my son, but he's 15 and both of these shows are 16 and older only.  That sucks.   >:(

Took my son to see Tremonti last week.  Small club, good show.  (Fronted by Mark Tremonti of Creed)

Awesome!!! What kind I say? 3 1/2 of prog ecstasy.

And last night I went to see Steven Wilson in Berlin. All I can say is: FLAWLESS! What a show, what a perfect band, scenery, sound, music, everything! And I haven't been a fan of the guy, but after last night I'll follow more closely.
